PARISH OUTREACH

you did for me.” Matthew 25:40

you did not do for me.” Matthew 25:45

Missions: Our parish offers several opportunities to help our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Once or twice a year we have a Missionary speak at the weekend Masses about the needs of the Mission churches of Africa/India/South America/Asia. Many parishioners are faithful in financially supporting the Propagation of the Faith Society which funds mission churches in remote parts of the world. Our young Catholics are very generous to Holy Childhood Association and have opportunities to contribute from their ‘wealth’ during Advent, Lent.

Food Pantry

Our parishioners’ weekly grocery donations keeps our Food Pantry well stocked. Pam Irvine sorts and bags the groceries and have a supply ready for people/families who call to the Rectory in need of food.

Welfare Fund
Victor/Veronica Cole administer funds to families in need of food/clothing. They also organize a Food Drive for Thanksgiving and Toy Drive in December.

Rosarito, Mexico Project: Love, Hope, Trust
...
has been supported by our parish for over fifteen years. It is hosted by the Sisters of Mercy, Omaha Province.

Our outreach caters to families who live on the hillsides of Rosarito, Baja California. When we first met the families, many of them lived in shacks. The Sisters of Mercy, through the generous donations of many very generous people, have been able to build homes for over 50 families. A number of our parishioners have helped finance homes for families in need of a stable place to live. Numerous parishioners have donated beds, bedding, furniture, clothing, bicycles, craft materials for craft classes, sewing machines/reams of material for sewing classes, computers for computer classes, yarn for knitting/crochet classes.

Our requested donations for the year are:

August:   School supplies
Advent:   Sock/candy drive, blankets/warm jackets, gloves/caps, shoes (no flip flops)
Lent:        Toiletries and towels
Ongoing: Soccer/baseball equipment, yarn for knitting/crochet, fabric for sewing classes

Delivery Trips are about every sixth Saturday. We gather at Guardian Angels at 8:30 a.m. to load and are ready to leave by 9 a.m. We are always in need of drivers/vehicles to help on delivery day. We stop for Mexican Auto Insurance en route at 805/San Ysidro Blvd. Many drivers prefer to get insurance from the Automobile Club of Southern California.  Passports are required as of June 2009, in lieu of passport, drivers/passengers need a birth certificate, a passport card or green card.

Golden Share
Golden Share, www.goldensharefoods , is a nondenominational, nonprofit organization that makes high-quality, nutritionally-balanced food available at very affordable prices in exchange for “volunteer service” to your community.

The Golden Share program is open to anyone who wishes to participate. It helps EVERYONE stretch their family food budget.

Golden Share defines Volunteer Service as anything you do that benefits someone else in your community for which you are not paid. You can help a neighbor, call a shut-in, volunteer for the United Way, coach Little League, work at your church, your school, or help distribute the Golden Share packages. Anything you do that makes the world a better place to live in, qualifies. All volunteer work is done on an “Honor System” with no verification required.

Sign-ups are during Distribution Day in the church Social Hall or on the second Sunday of the month, unless noted, in the Parish Center or call Darlene or Jay Szczublewski at (619) 562-9586.

The Hunger Site

Every 3.6 seconds, someone dies of hunger. 75% are children. You can make a difference.  Visit The Hunger Site
(
http://www.thehungersite.com/home ) every day and donate cups of food for the world's hungry -- at no cost to you.

When you click on the "Give Free Food" button on the home page of The Hunger Site, funding is generated for the purchase and distribution of staple food to those in need. Funds are paid by site sponsors. In 2000, daily clicks yielded over $3.4 million for the frontline hunger relief organizations working to provide food and hope to the hungry around the world. That's over 20 million pounds of food made possible by people like you, who simply took a moment to click a button each day.

The Hunger Site helps people in most desperate need; earthquake victims in El Salvador, those left adrift in war-torn Eritrea, families on the brink of starvation in drought-stricken North Korea, and many more. Our partners Mercy Corps and America’s Second Harvest are using funding from the Hunger site to provide food, water and health services to refugees and support to those unemployed and needy.

Please make visiting The Hunger Site part of your daily routine. The number of people clicking on the "Give Free Food" button directly ties to the amount of food that goes to the hungry. Thanks for your help!  http://www.thehungersite.com/home

Alcoholics Anonymous
meet in the Social Hall on Mondays and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.  Al Anon meet at 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

St. Vincent de Paul
Father Joe's Village
A number of our parishioners help prepare/serve lunch/dinner at St. Vincent de Paul Joan Kroc Center. If you are interested in helping in groups of 2 or 3 , please call 619-687-1066 for a suitable date/time.

Needs
As needs arise locally or globally, there are always parishioners willing to help in whatever capacity is feasible for them at the time. Our local Knights of Columbus branch usually help with yard work or basic home repairs for the elderly/shut-ins of our neighborhood.
