TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION:
Today we are at the fiftieth day of the Easter celebration: seven weeks of seven days, a week of weeks, now culminating in a festival fiftieth day. While the liturgical color of the Easter season is gold, on this last day we have red. For the first thousand years of the church, there were no firm rules for using colors. Only wealthy churches could afford a full array of colors, and most places used the best vestments, no matter the color, for the greatest feasts. The Church spelled out an exact plan for color, including red for Pentecost, only in 1570, but local differences held on until the 1800s.
Color experts tell us that red is a hot color, best used for fast-paced, upbeat, active experiences. It is hard to be neutral before red, as any matador will tell you. It invites commitment, draws you in. It is a stimulating color, engaging the eye, stirring hunger. It is the most fitting color for this day when we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit into our lives, a dynamic presence overturning neutrality in favor of passion and commitment.

What the Year of Faith logo means:
~the BOAT symbolizes the CHURCH coursing through the waves of time.
~the MAST of the boat is a CROSS, the sign of our faith in Jesus, from which the sail is displayed in the form of the trigram of CHRIST (HIS, sometimes interpreted as Jesus
Hominum Salvator-Jesus, savior of men).
~In the background is the SUN which, associated with the trigram, refers to the EUCHARIST.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
Many thanks to all of you who have made a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal and I encourage those who have not, to consider doing so now. We are still well short of our goal of $48,000. Every pledge helps, no matter how small. We all need to be part of our Parish and part of the Diocese; this is one way of doing it. Please remember the Annual Catholic Appeal in your prayers. God bless you.

ANOTHER THOUGHT…Allergies crop up from all sorts of things at all times of the year. All year long, inside the church, particularly, an overabundance of fragrance (both male and female) can be overwhelming for many of our parishioners. And alas, those who snuff out one last smoke just before entering church do cause a discomfort to all around. Please be considerate of other parishioners at all times. Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Ann Curtis, Parish Secretary, will be retiring on Thur. May 30th, after 23 years of loyal service at Guardian Angels. We will be hosting a Cake and Ice Cream Social on Sun. June 2nd, at 12:30pm in Cunnane Parish Center. All are invited, so come and join us in sharing the many stories and laughs as we bid Ann farewell.
We would like to announce and welcome the appointment of Patti Myers as our new Parish Secretary, effective June 3rd.
Rev. Kevin P. Casey, SJ

One Final Note; PARISH PARKING:
With the size of vans, trucks and SUV’s today, parking is at a premium and often times difficult. Please park courteously in our parish parking lots and only in marked parking spaces. Parking outside of marked parking spaces is a hazard to those walking and driving.
Thank you for your cooperation.

ARE YOU REGISTERED AT GUARDIAN ANGELS?...You are valued as a parishioner of Guardian Angels Parish. Each week your presence, support and active participation bring life to this community. If you have not filled out a registration form and are not receiving mailings from Guardian Angels, then there is no record of your presence in our parish. The fact that you’ve been “coming here for years” is not the same as being registered. To become registered you need only sign the blue binder at the back of church, call 448-1213 or come into the parish office Mon thru Fri, 9am-5pm or Sat 9am-4pm. Please keep in mind that families should be registered, active and supporting the parish to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, First Eucharist, and Holy Matrimony or to be sponsors in Baptism or Confirmation at Guardian Angels. Participation in the community and its life is an integral part of Catholic life. If you move, change address or phone or make other changes affecting your registration, please let the parish office know and adjustments will be made to the parish database. Thank you.
